Equus (1977)

Produced by Lester Persky and Elliott Kastner

Directed by Sidney Lumet

IMDB link

Equus is the earliest production known to have used the Lakeshore Grounds, filming two years prior to the closure of the Lakeshore Psychiatric Hospital. The staff newsletter for the Hospital covered the event in detail, although much disappointment was expressed about the fact that Hollywood celebrity Richard Burton, who played psychiatrist Martin Dysart, did not film any scenes on location; his two planned scenes were cancelled prior to filming.

Equus filmed a number of scenes around the exterior of the cottages of the still operational Lakeshore Psychiatric Hospital.
