The American political drama is set in Washington, DC but filmed heavily throughout Toronto and Etobicoke during its three-season run. In an interview with Skedline, the Assistant Location Manager for the production, Nikhil D'Souza, revealed that the provincial tax credits provided to studios has been a major incentive in drawing American productions to the area - not to mention the fact that the city's architecture can easily stand in for a major American city. Filming on the Lakeshore Grounds
G Cottage plays a large part in season 2 of Designated Survivor. In one scene, the space is transformed into a hospital, with the interiors of both the original 1890 structure and 2016 extension clearly visible.
The east side of G Cottage, and part of H cottage, are also used to represent the exterior of the FBI building where many of the characters work.
